Learning Music for peace?
Many come to learn music with me to feel peace, joy, happiness etc. But what most of them experience is the opposite after 1 or 2 classes. They arrive to each class happily but within a few minutes, they are witnessing flood of anxiety, worry, restlessness, shame while I just see and not react and we keep singing/playing music..
This is the reality. Peace is not something you sit down and experience immedietely after singing few swaras and come back next day or week for the same experience again. Music cares and loves much more than providing a temporary relief. Getting into regular learning from someone who sees music as an expression of love and not as an object of gratification and material success, is a challenge. It changes one's entire life energy, it wipes out all the concepts, mind's habitual thinking and believing. The old energy do not work and play anymore in the new beginning. Music brings to surface everything that one has not yet encountered within themselves to maintain false identities one has worn for years/decades. It is the same for both the student and teacher if you wonder.
Music sharing is a divine space where expansion happens, not slowly, step by step,
but instantly, enormously... In this space, emotions come to surface first before any peace and joy of peace can appear (Read about Samudra Manthan mythology?)...
The intense resistence, doubts, unease, self hate, desperation, violence... all the unpleasant emotions that one wouldn't like to be seen by anybody including oneself, comes up, one after other... The teacher having seen all these, makes space for these, without taking any of it personally, without seeing it as any wrong to be corrected, and just allowing and flowing, and their passing, while not making the music lesson any easier to give comfort! The unpleasant energies pass as they must... through the still watch... This space is when/where Music is born. Nectar after Poison (accepted, swallowed). A different realm altogether.
Yes , the Teacher, who is witnessing, making space and allowing this, is also drinking the poison for the student. Selflessly. Suppose the student is already free of these, then the help comes from the student to let the Teacher process through this cycle if the teacher needs it and this makes the student a Guru! A Teacher can be a Guru only when the teacher is free from their own non-acceptance of supressed emotions.
Guru space is the space which allows this divine cleansing. Starting music or any lessons from this space is nothing but divine cleansing, a return back home.
The peace that one came looking for is not really a pleasure, but a Tapas- meaning- commitment to be still, and witness everything without making any meaning out of it, without resisting, but just trusting the still witness of Guruttva in that space which the Teacher is consciously allowing and loving; and Staying, and showing up the next time. and Everytime. Not until outer situations get better in personal life, but continuing to stay, not for music studies alone but until the inner cleansing is done and peace is embodied to some extent, and until things change naturally for good.
Peace is not an experience of happiness.
Peace is alignment with one's true and SUPREME intention
Peace is listening to Spirit guiding
Peace is staying.
Peace is staying while all of the mind is screaming like hungry ghost - to Quit.
Peace is to Trust.
